Senator Ali Ndume Rejects APC Governors’ Endorsement of Tinubu for 2027, Cites Nation’s Hardship

Senator Ali Ndume Distances Himself from Tinubu's 2027 Endorsement, Cites National Hardship

Borno South Senator, Ali Ndume, has publicly distanced himself from the endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term ahead of the 2027 elections. Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics programme, Ndume expressed serious reservations about the move by 22 APC governors who, on May 22, 2025, unanimously adopted Tinubu as the party’s presidential candidate.

Ndume, a long-serving senator with over 20 years in the National Assembly, warned that endorsements by governors do not guarantee electoral success. He referenced the 2015 election in which former President Goodluck Jonathan, despite receiving similar backing from 22 PDP governors, ultimately lost to Muhammadu Buhari of the APC.

He emphasized that his disagreement is rooted in the current state of the nation, stating plainly that “things are very bad in the country” and that leaders should focus more on governance than early politicking.

His comments reflect growing concerns among some political leaders and citizens about the timing and implications of the endorsement, especially amidst economic challenges and rising insecurity across the country.
