NYSC Urges Corps Members to Prioritize Wealth Creation Over White-Collar Jobs
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has advised corps members across the country not to depend solely on white-collar jobs after their service year. Instead, the scheme is encouraging them to embrace entrepreneurship, skills development, and wealth creation as more sustainable paths to success in today’s economic climate.
Speaking during an orientation program, an NYSC official emphasized that the job market is saturated and waiting endlessly for office jobs may lead to frustration. Corps members were urged to take full advantage of the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program—an NYSC initiative designed to equip them with practical, income-generating skills.
“The reality is, not everyone will secure a corporate job after NYSC. But you can create your own opportunity. Focus on building something for yourself,” the official said.
This advice reflects the growing push for self-reliance and youth-led economic growth in Nigeria, especially amid high unemployment rates.
Don’t wait for white-collar jobs, instead focus on wealth creation.
