South Africa Deports Nigerian Pastor Timothy Omotoso

South African authorities deported Nigerian televangelist Timothy Omotoso on Sunday. The leader of Jesus Dominion International Church was escorted from Durban to OR Tambo International Airport, where he boarded a flight back to Nigeria. Omotoso, who recently beat multiple rape and human trafficking charges in the Gqeberha High Court, agreed to the deportation voluntarily.

Despite being acquitted along with co-accused Lusanda Sulani and Zukiswa Sitho on April 2 after an eight-year legal battle, Omotoso was arrested last week when he was again declared a prohibited person in South Africa. He was briefly released to pursue an appeal before deportation procedures resumed.

According to South Africa Broadcasting Cooperation (SABC), The South African's Department of Home Affairs has confirmed that Nigerian televangelist Timothy Omotoso has been banned from re-entering South Africa for the next five years.

Officials state that he is classified as a "prohibited person" under the Immigration Act due to a previous fraudulent permit and overstaying his visa.
